Call for Commission Proposals: £10,000 Opportunity for a Disabled Artist based in Wales
A partnership between Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales and Disability Arts Cymru (DAC) in association with CELF, the national contemporary art gallery of Wales. Deadline: 12 midday, Thursday 29 August 2025
Overview
Disability Arts Cymru and Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales are offering a £10,000 commission to a disabled, d/Deaf or neurodivergent artist to create a new artwork that:
- - Will be included in DAC’s major national touring exhibition, Effaith / Impact,
- - Will be exhibited at National Museum Cardiff
- - May be acquired for the national collection
This is a significant opportunity to produce a professional visual arts work that explores either one of these themes:
- - Climate justice, landscape, or nature from the perspective of disability.
- - Body and identity.
About the Commission
The selected artist will create a new visual artwork that:
- - Responds to the theme Effaith (Impact) – exploring the interconnection between nature, climate and disabled experience
- - Is suitable for display in public galleries and potentially for acquisition by Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
- - May be a completely new creation, or a response to an existing artwork in the National Collection
This commission is supported through CELF, the national contemporary art gallery of Wales initiative.
What We Offer
The successful artist will receive:
- - £10,000 fee – inclusive of artist time, materials, production, and access costs
- - Curatorial support and mentoring from DAC and Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales
- - Exhibition of the finished work in the Effaith touring exhibition
- - Exhibition of the work at National Museum Cardiff
- - Consideration for acquisition into the national collection of Wales
- - Promotion and documentation of the commission

Who Can Apply
We welcome proposals from:
- - Artists who self-identify as disabled, d/Deaf and/or neurodivergent
- - Artists who are based in Wales
- - Artists working in any visual art form, including but not limited to: Painting; Moving image; Digital media; Sculpture; Installation, Photography, Sound, Interdisciplinary practices.
We especially encourage applications from artists from racialised backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ communities, and others who face barriers to access and visibility in the arts.

- - A proposal (max 300 words) outlining: Your idea for the commission; How it responds to the theme; What materials or media you plan to use.
- - Up to 5 images or media files showing examples of your previous work
- - A short artist biography (max 200 words)
- - Your contact details and any relevant links (website or social media)
- - Your access rider, or a short note about how we can best support you.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of representatives from Disability Arts Cymru and Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales.
We will assess proposals based on:
- - The originality and relevance of the idea
- - Artistic quality and clarity of vision
- - Feasibility within the given budget
- - The potential of the opportunity to support your artistic development and career
