I was inspired by both artworks, particularly Mike Perry's, Flip Flop 29, Playa Santa Anna, Havana, Cuba, 2014. The concept of 'drama in micro-studies' showing the 'damage inflicted upon nature by human activity', as discussed on his website resonated deeply with me.
My goal was to highlight ocean pollution by using upcycled materials, shells and pieces of plastic waste to create a tactile textile artwork. The piece is visually inspired by photos I've taken at Penarth and Swansea beaches. It features layers of upcycled fabric, yarn, and thread, along with beads, shells and plastic detritus.
