Y.M.C.A., Porth
SHORT, Denys
© Denys Short/Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales
This shows a street scene in Porth, near Cymmer, but is typical of many 1960s valleys streets. Notice the rows of terraced houses, the bus stop sign and lamp-posts, and the old aerial sets on the chimneys. The blue building is the YMCA in Porth, which no longer exists. The YMCA is the oldest charity working with young people in the world.
