Between IX
The contrast of violently red sky and pitch black land mass creates an unearthly atmosphere in this work. The glowing light recalls the light of the furnaces which lit up the night in the valleys’ industrial heyday. The work comments on this past and relates it to urban landscape of today. This is one of nine photographs of the south Wales valleys commissioned for the Wales pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2003.
