Green Gorse, Cwm Gwyllog, Ffynnonofi, Pembrokeshire
Mike Perry's practice addresses the environmental crisis that is happening on our own doorstep. Based in west Wales, he has been challenging the romantic mythology of national parks as areas of wilderness and natural beauty since the early 2000s. This work highlights the proliferation of this invasive species across coastal landscapes in Pembrokeshire as a result of unsustainable farming practices and continuous sheep grazing. The minimalist and abstract composition, in which the green vegetation sits against a backdrop of neutral, flat skies, creates an interplay between form and narrative.
