Oval meat plate or dish, white earthenware, inset oval base, gently curving sides and slight out-turned rim; 'Down by the Seine' pattern, the plate is printed with three stylised vignettes in polychrome colours, in a palette of blue, green, pink, black and grey, to the left side of the plate is a large scene of a traditional riverside cafe with a man sitting at a table drinking a glass of wine, between the table and cafe a woman in a full-skirted pink dress is walking a black poodle, a boat, bridge and tree form the background, to the upper right of the plate is a small vignette of a similar composition to the latter image, to the bottom right is a scene with a woman in pink dress walking by a river with a tree and building to either side, a boater is sailing on the river to her left, the rim is decorated with a simple platinum lustre band.
