Preliminary drawing for Ellin's Twr, Anglesey
This is a preliminary drawing for the painting Close to Ellin’s Twr, Anglesey, 2004-06, which is also on loan to Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales from the Derek Williams Trust. The painting is one of Peter Prendergast's last and largest works. Towards the end of his life he concentrated on the motif of the cliff and sea, as he was attracted by the force of the sea meeting the land. The subject of this work is a dramatic cliff between the South Stack Lighthouse and Pen-las Rock close to Ellin’s Twr.
