Table with cubes
NASH, David
Nash studied at Kingston, Brighton and Chelsea and has lived in Blaenau Ffestiniog in Gwynedd since 1967. This work began with a series of small abstract carvings roughly cut with an axe. The artist recalled: 'The splits intrigued me. The black space in the crack gave more information about the object's volume, a sense of its interior. I applied this to the geometric construction of a cube, the gap at the mitred edges creating a black line running round the object. The table came as a way of presenting the cubes'.
