Girl with a Siamese Cat
CHAMBERLAIN, Brenda
Brenda Chamberlain was born in Bangor and in 1947 she moved to the remote Bardsey Island, off the tip of the Llŷn Peninsula. In this domestic scene, one of her island neighbours holds the artist’s pet cat. Both are looking at something beyond the frame. What do you think has caught their attention? Behind them, an open window draws us into the hilly landscape and clear sky.
Chamberlain won the first gold medal award at the National Eisteddfod in 1951 with this painting.
