Celebrate, Care, Protest: People, Society and Identity

Flatboy

26 March 2024 | Minute read

  • Two digital drawings celebrating Welshness: on the left, two people in traditional Welsh costumes complete with red dress and white apron, and black hats. On the right, 4 people dressed as if supporting Welsh football.
  • Two digital drawings showing care in the NHS. On the left is a patient in a bed with a doctor and nurse, and daffodils in a vase with a banner above saying 'NHS Launches Today'. On the right are three NHS workers celebrating the 75th birthday of the NHS
  • Two digital drawings showing protest. On the left are 4 adults and a child protesting with a banner stating 'Coal Not Dole'. On the right are 5 people protesting for various causes.

Flatboy is a Welsh illustrator and printmaker. Their work centres trans and gender non-conforming people in their most vulnerable and euphoric moments. Different projects focus on different emotions, such as softness, joy, wonder, intimacy and peace, in an attempt to show the depth and diversity of trans experiences that are so rarely depicted in the media and public life. In all their work Flatboy attempts to capture the connections between trans people, and the sense of deep, unbreakable love that flows through the community.
