Religion & Beliefs

For centuries different world religions and beliefs have been depicted through art in all its forms, with artists using a range of media, concepts and techniques to create their work.

To believe in something or someone is to have trust or faith in its existence. While it can be a solitary experience, do community, companionship and courage also have a part to play?

Many artists turn to religious themes to explore their own feelings and ideas. From fleeing wars and persecution to seeking pilgrimage and religious offerings and depicting ceremonies and services, artists often reference different experiences of religion and beliefs in their work.

Take a look at the artworks below – how do they portray the stories, experiences, and ideas related to world religions and beliefs?
