Shadow Vessel

Rawnsley, Pamela

We’re working on releasing this image.

Tall vase form, silver, elongated waisted form made in two sections joined at the middle, lentoid in plan, with a flat base and an applied flat rim that overlaps the edge; impressed decoration of irregular vertical lines and spots in low relief, these polished and contrasting with the dark oxidised surface.

We have a duty of care to all our audiences. This website draws on legacy collections data. We recognise that some of this information may be outdated or discriminatory and we're currently working to review our records. If you have any questions or comments on an artwork, please contact us.

Civilian Victim, Vietnam, 1967. ---- Vietnam. This woman was tagged, probably by a sympathetic corpsman, with the designation VNC (Vietnamese civilian). This was unusual. Wounded civilians were normally tagged VCS (Vietcong suspect) and all dead peasants were posthumously elevated to the rank of VCC (Vietcong confirmed).
