Mademoiselle Pouvereau

JOHN, Gwen
Mademoiselle Pouvereau
Image: By permission of Amgueddfa Cymru — Museum Wales
 Zoom

Mademoiselle Pouvereau was a Meudon parishioner, who Gwen John mentioned in a letter. This image has been traditionally identified as her and is one of several works of the same composition. John probably executed the drawing in church and worked the image up with watercolour and bodycolour in the studio.
