Elephant

JONES, David

In 1928 David Jones visited London Zoo and made a number of sketches of animals. This painting was inspired by these sketches. In the late 1920s Jones was in close contact with the avant-garde in Britain. He joined the progressive Seven & Five Society in 1928. The childlike qualities of 'Elephant' is a common feature in modern British painting at this time.
