Basaltes Vessel
Made of sequoia fallen in the British Isles, the vessel form was created by turning and hollowing on a lathe. The undulating pattern was carved into the turned form. The piece was sandblasted to create texture. This technique removes the tree's softer summer growth and reveals the ridges of harder winter growth. An iron-stain solution and coat of oil wax was applied to ebonise the wood and give the object it's dark colour.
