The Cathedral at Elne

INNES, James Dickson

The Cathedral at Elne
Image: By permission of Amgueddfa Cymru — Museum Wales
 Zoom

Elne is half way between Perpignan and Collioure. This is the view from the vicinity of the railway station and was probably painted during a halt on a train journey. The flat blocks of bright colour recall Matisse and the Fauves, who also painted in Provence.
