Bowl, stoneware, inverted conical form of double-walled construction with an inset base, conical lower section curving out to the angle with the straight-sided and slightly flared upper section, an airhole on the underside, inside an inverted conical profile curving down into the bottom of the bowl; inside, a glossy black glaze with lustrous specks and edge at the rim, a matt black glaze on the underside.

GB. WALES. Aberfan, The Aberfan disaster was a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil in the Welsh village of Aberfan, on 21st October 1966, killing 116 children and 28 adults. It was caused by a build-up of water in the accumulated rock and shale, which suddenly started to slide downhill in the form of slurry. The Salvation Army are on hand with food. 1966.
