Vegetable dish and cover, white earthenware with clear glaze, 'Fine' shape, circular dish, foot ring with concave bevelled body immediately above the base, rising to vertical sides with two ledge handles, domed cover with broad, flattened knop with concave upper face; the exterior of the is body transfer-printed under the glaze with the 'Sienna' pattern, comprising evenly spaced vertical stripes in olive and orange, over which are broad areas of sketchy, meandering vertical lines in black, between which are groups of three similar black lines, the edge of the cover has a border of three interlacing sketchy black lines, the upper face of the knop is decorated with a similar pattern of olive and orange stripes overlaid with black lines.

GB. WALES. Aberfan, The Aberfan disaster was a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil in the Welsh village of Aberfan, on 21st October 1966, killing 116 children and 28 adults. It was caused by a build-up of water in the accumulated rock and shale, which suddenly started to slide downhill in the form of slurry. The Salvation Army are on hand with food. 1966.
