Prefiguration - Eryr
DAVIES, Ivor
© Ivor Davies/Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales
This work is typical of Ivor Davies' mid-1950s period when he experimented with abstract paintings using unconventional materials that are heavily worked. The prominent dark forms are made from charcoal powder mixed with glue and are enlargements from a 'sketch' of Indian ink blots or spots - introducing themes of the subconscious and surrealism. Given the title Eryr (eagle) as the right-hand form bears a resemblance to a bird.
