Cŵn Gwyllt

Howell, Catrin

© Catrin Howell/Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales
×

Two wild dogs climb on top of each other as they try to escape the rising blue-green water of the sea. This is a reference to the legend of Cantre'r Gwaelod, a kingdom flooded by the waters of Cardigan Bay. The artist has captured the untamed spirit of the animals, which seem to be helping and not fighting each other.

GB. ENGLAND. Isle of Wight. Pop festival. Girls with the bouffant hairstyle popular at the time. It was a mainstream hairstyle in the mid-to-late 18th century in western Europe. It was thought to be created for Marie Antoinette, as she had relatively thin hair and wanted to create the illusion of having very full hair. 1969.
