Jug

Earthenware jug, wheel-thrown, footring, ovoid body, cylindrical neck, slightly upturned spout, curved and angled moulded handle. Shoulder inscribed 'Bonaparte Dethron'd'in brown enamel. Body printed with a complex on-glaze cartoon showing Napoleon in chains being dragged into a fiery pit by a devil and surrounded by various characters all with speech bubbles. Landscape setting, print overpainted in enamels. Narrow brown enamel to shoulder, around foot, brown enamel strokes to back of handle. Most of neck missing, remains painted blue.
