Rectangular piece of a larger carpet designed by Graham Sutherland comprissing of four repetitions of the design described below. Between each repeat is an ochre coloured border (approx. 5cm wide). The main background colour is sage green with a (approx. 1cm) border of ochre at the edge. There are two thin, black line rectangular borders (approx. 5cm apart) which are crossed with perpendicular 'dashes' at regular intervals. In the centre is a black rectangle with a green and cream cross motif, intersected with a cresent shape to top and bottom. The geometric pattern in ochre, sage green and black is the same as that of NMW A 51686.
