Yard with Scrap Metal II incorporates representational motifs, but also exhibits an element of abstraction which Clough would go on to develop in subsequent decades. Clough was intrigued by the urban and industrial landscape. She transformed apparently commonplace subjects, such as this scrap yard, into subjects of compelling mystery and beauty.
