Some Trees and Snow

ZOBOLE, Ernest
Some Trees and Snow
Image: © Manuel Zobole/Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales
 Zoom

This landscape shows a snow-covered Rhondda Fawr. The hillside stretches up to the top of the canvas, exaggerating the flatness of the painting. Look at the clouds and trees. They have been painted with a deliberate, almost "child-like" naiveté. At the bottom of the painting two cars and a train make their way through the valley. As darkness envelopes the landscape they are small reminders of human presence.
