Head of a boy

GAUDIER-BRZESKA, Henri

© Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales
×

'Head of Boy 'is an early stone carving by Gaudier-Brzeska. The modest scale and rather crude carving indicate that the artist was experimenting with new skills and techniques. He soon became an accomplished stone carver. Gaudier-Brzeska was inspired to carve directly in stone by a visit to the studio of Jacob Epstein. Like Epstein, he was also influenced by "primitive" sculptures
