POOLE, George
The figures are gathered in their numbers for a cause that is dear to their hearts-socialism. They are anonymous, yet they appear to be defiant. Poole uses rigid depictions of their figure and purposeful brushwork, to accentuate these qualities. Poole, himself a former communist, was no stranger to the world of politics. He sought to illustrate social realism in his works: reality through his eyes, without any embellishments.
