GB. WALES. Aberfan, The Aberfan disaster was a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil in the Welsh village of Aberfan, on 21st October 1966, killing 116 children and 28 adults. It was caused by a build-up of water in the accumulated rock and shale, which suddenly started to slide downhill in the form of slurry. 1966.

The school was first established in 1973 in what was then Butetown or Tiger Bay. The area was formed by the building of the coal docks of Cardiff. At one time it is said that more than 30 languages could be heard in the square mile of this area. 2005.
