 Zoom

Mick Kubarkku was a prominent Aboriginal Australian artist from the Arnhem Land region. At the age of 15, his father taught him the cultural significance and crafting techniques for creating paintings for sacred ceremonies. Kubarkku’s art and subject matter are a direct reflection of his Aboriginal Australian identity. Drawing on cave art traditions, his work is executed with a raw, rough and direct quality. This large saltwater crocodile is painted using naturally occurring pigments onto the smooth inner bark of the stringybark tree, common to northern parts of Australia.
