Zoom

Circular, sloping rim with curvature perforated with five parallel rows of small contiguous lozenge shaped holes. The upper surface is applied with a light brown tortoiseshell japan and is decorated with five small bouquets and a folded-ribbon all in silver. The application of a clear varnish has resulted in a golden tinged surface appearance. Black japan to underside of base

Rhiannon Gwyn was raised in Sling - a quarrying village in north Wales. Her work reflects the rugged beauty of her home landscape by using the physical qualities of Welsh slate and other locally sourced materials. Porcelain bowls, coloured with a glaze made of local gorse flower, are nestled upon slate shelves that have been shaped through a process of heating and melting.
