Oval sculpture (Delos)
HEPWORTH, Barbara
Barbara Hepworth’s sculptural practice was heavily inspired by the landscape around her and her place within it. She was interested in the shape and character of coastlines and other geographical features, carving into wood to achieve her lyrical, organic forms. Drawing inspiration from Greece, she carved several sculptures with Grecian titles. Delos is the site of Apollo’s cave and also the island around which the Cyclades lie in an oval form.
