LURCAT, Jean

×

Originally from Bruyéres in the Vosges, Lurcat came to Paris in 1900. As a young artist, he was impressed by Cezanne and the German Expressionists. Subsequently he became friendly with Picasso and Apollinaire. Following a visit to Spain in 1924, Lurcat produced lyrical landscapes with Surrealist overtones, such as this work. During the later part of his career, he specialised in designing tapestries.
