Two studies of a lake near Aberaeron
PIPER, John
John Piper visited Aberaeron on his first painting trip to Wales in 1936, but this pair of studies is probably from the late 1950s.
Piper’s landscape works were often made outdoors, and frequently in the wind and rain.
Here he has captured the same scene at different times of day, showing how the water of the lake changed from bright blue in the daytime to a silvery-grey at night.
