Chia Pi

EPSTEIN, Jacob

© Estate of Sir Jacob Epstein/Tate/Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales
×

By the Second World War Epstein was firmly established as the leading figurative sculptor in Britain. Chia Pi ('Precious Flower') was the wife of a Chinese diplomat, exiled in Britain following the Chinese revolution. This bust was produced in an edition of five casts. Margaret Davies purchased it in 1953.
